base oil sn 600 Specifications

What is Base Oil SN600 ?

Base oils are of interest to many researchers and engineers in companies and factories due to their many applications. Here we will introduce one of the most famous and widely used of them. Base oil SN600 is a paraffinic oil with high saturation and low sulfur level. This oil is an example of base oil group I. In general, SN prefix stands for Solvent Neutral. Oils with this prefix were refined and processed with neutral solvents.

Some of the solvents used for this purpose are Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4), Propane and N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP). After this product is purified with Solvent Neutral, it is purified with hydrogen gas to remove all impurities. Also, the number written after SN is the SUS Viscosity of that oil at 40 degrees. This oil is considered a suitable additive due to its solubility characteristic.

Base Oil SN600 specifications

The difference between this oil and the rest is in the technical specifications of this oil. We will check the main characteristics of this oil.

1-KINETIC VISCOSITY AT 100 C:

This index measured by ASTM D-445 method of this product at 100 degrees Celsius is between 12 and 13 cst.

2-VISCOSITY INDEX:

Using the ASTM D2270 method, this value is reported as 90.

3-FLASH POINT:

FLASH POINT is the temperature at which the oil starts to ignite. This temperature should be included in the engineers’ technical calculations to avoid irreparable accidents. The minimum temperature required for this oil is 245, which is measured by the ASTMD92 method.

4-POUR POINT:

POUR POINT is the lowest temperature at which this oil can flow and flow. According to the ambient temperature, one should choose an oil that can flow in the engine and gearbox of machines, cars and agricultural machines such as tractors and perform their duties. The value of POUR POINT for base oil SN600 is -6 degrees Celsius, which has been tested and announced in the laboratory by the ASTMD97 method. At a temperature lower than this amount, the oil does not flow and does not perform the desired lubrication.

5-SPECIFIC GRAVITY:

This indicator shows the amount of density compared to the density of water. The number 0.885 is the amount of SPECIFIC GRAVITY declared through the ASTMD4052 method. This number is obtained by dividing the density of matter by the density of water. If the declared number is less than 1, it means that the solution has a lower density than water, and if we add it to water, it will float in water. If this number is greater than 1, it means that the density of oil is higher than water and it floats on the surface of water.

6-COLOUR:

This oil has a darker color than other SN oils, such as SN500 and SN150, but it is referred to as a base oil with a light color. The maximum allowed amount for this oil is 2.5.

Applications of Base Oil SN600

So far we have talked about the characteristics of this oil. In the following, we would like to say what the distinctive characteristics of base oil SN600 are used in the industry.

1- Lubricant production

The most important and main application of this oil is in the production of lubricants.  In the production of lubricants, usually between 1 and 10% of additives are used. base oil SN600 is considered a base oil and additives are added to them each to produce a specific type of lubricant. These lubricants are usually effective in the internal friction of the oil and the wear and corrosion of the oil with the metal surface.

2-Transmission fluids

This type of fluid is usually used in the gearbox of machines and cars. In the gearbox, power is transmitted through gears and shafts. Transmission fluids, while providing smoothness and fluidity, must also take care of the surface of the gears against corrosion and wear.

3-Metal working fluids

Metals can be shaped in a variety of ways. During the forming process, there is a lot of heat and friction between the part and the forming machine. Also, during the forming process, the small pieces of metal that were separated from the part should be quickly separated from the part to create the required space for machining. base oil SN600 can transfer the generated heat to the air and reduce friction.

4-Mould oil

In addition to its many uses in metallurgy and mechanics, this oil is used in civil and architectural industries. The application is  to ensure the quick and clean release of hardened concrete by reacting chemically with the cement at the surface.

The difference between Base Oil SN600 and other SN group oils

In the following, we explain the differences in three factors: KINETIC VISCOSITY, FLASH POINT, and POUR POINT.

The difference between SN600 and SN150

Property SN600 SN150
Kinetic Viscosity at 100°C 12 5
Flash Point (°C) 250 205
Flash Point Note SN600 oil is more resistant to ignition at temperatures above 200°C.
Pour Point (°C) -6 -3

In cold regions, you can get higher efficiency from the device if you use SN600 oil.

safety tips Base Oil SN600

You should remember important things while working with this oil. Neglecting and forgetting to observe these things may cause irreparable disasters. We will mention some of them below.

  • Potential Health Effects: First predisposed organ to damage is skin. In general application, vapor or oil mist should not generated, if frequent contact occur there may be mild irritation of eyes, skin, & especially lungs which can be prohibited by using suitable and safety ventilation. · Fire Fighting Instructions: Water fog, CO2, foam, sand, soil & dry chemical material. · Maintenance: Do not keep empty or full Drums under pressure. This production should be away from Heat, ignition &flame resources. Take care of some amount of remained Material in container that may be exploded by heating. · Environment: To prevent any hazard to environment, prevent the entrance of material in to waste water canals & underground by making suitable barriers and fast collecting techniques. Clean poured material with Clay, Stone & absorbing material.
